Certified diamonds are those that were examined by a team of gemologists, who create a report where a diamond is
measured, inspected and evaluated. The quality of a diamond is approved using an expert and trained visión, magnifying glasses and microscopes, as well as other tools used in the jewelry industry followed by creating a detailed report of all diamond´s caracteristics. For a complete certificate, the diamond´s dimensions, symmetry, polishing, cutting, color among other characteristics should be examined and analyzed.
These are some of the most recognize and respected laboratories on the diamond
industry, resposible for certiying a diamond:
- Gemological Institute of America (GIA )
- International Gemological Institute (IGI)
- American Gem Society (AGS)
- HRD by Antwerp World Diamond Center.
- The Certified Gemological Laboratory of Europe (CGL)
The most valued diamonds in the industry are those that are accompanied by a graduation report by one of these famous laboratories, which are famous for their graduation system, consistency and coherence.
Tips:
It’s important to understand that not all laboratories are equally demanding about the graduation of a diamond. Example: A G-colored diamond with a GIA certificate is not the same as a G-color diamond from an "X" laboratory. The laboratory G diamond X could be a H, I, J or even K compared to the GIA. GIA laboratory is the most demanding laboratory of all and there are many laboratories that are not as demanding which determines the accuracy of the color, cut, carat and clarity of a diamond.
It’s advisable to buy a diamond with a recognized and respected certificate, because this will give us certainty of what you are buying. This means that the diamond has certain characteristics, it’s natural, has had no treatments, among other important factors.
About 70% of certified diamonds with recognized laboratories have a serial number pinted in the diamond’s belt. This serial number is important in order to identify your diamond in case you don’t have its certificate or if you want to know for sure if the diamond that you were given corresponds to the certificate that comes with it. This allows us to reassure the buyer that they will never change the stone.
